Scripture Reading: John 13:1-38

The Last Supper was a Passover meal Jesus shared with His disciples in the Upper Room on the night before He was crucified (John 13-17). Maundy Thursday traditionally commemorates the time Jesus, as an example of love and humility, washed His disciple’s feet prior to the meal.

The word “maundy” comes from the English word “mandate.” John 13:34 records the specific mandate or command Jesus gave in the Upper Room: “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
